Emperor Thinks of New Sensation!

Xiangyang
251 B.C.

Recently Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di has decided that China should have a Great Wall to
protect from invaders. Qin wants to make a wall out of series of stones. It will be built to protect
from the greatest threat, which is the the bands of barbarian tribesman who lived to the north
and northwest. Qin is afraid of attack ever taking place so he has announced that a Great Wall
will be built. So far in the making, thousands of people have taken action in turning the
emperor’s dream into reality. Families have been forced to help in building the Great Wall, which
has caused relationships to fall apart along with breaking the beliefs of Confucianism.

In a meeting with Emperor Qin it was said that the Great Wall will be planned to be as long as 2,000 miles long. The wall will go across the borders of the dynasty and along the plains and and deserts. Qin wants to make this Great Wall was because he doesn’t want any unexpected visitors. So far it has been announced that some of the wall has been completed. Many deaths have also been reported. People have been killed from falling stones or dying from the conditions of working without much water and protection from the cold or heat.
We interviewed two people on this issue. Xia He, a landowner’s wife, had her husband taken away by Qin’s orders. “I feel that Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di doesn’t realize what he is doing and what is happening right under his nose! My husband was forced to be taken away to work on this ‘great wall’ and I don’t even know if he will come back! I worry everyday and I feel that Emperor Qin should stop making this death wall and let everyone go back to their families, where they belong.”  Another person wanted to speak up, named Lian. Lian told us his opinion on the building of the “Great Wall”. “ I think that what Qin is doing to protect us is great. We will finally be protected by the right ruler and in the right way. The Emperor seems to have it all planned out so I don’t want to worry about anything. I believe that we are in good hands.” The questions everyone asking now are “What will the Emperor do about all of these deaths and complaints?” and “Will Qin Shi Huang Di protect China the way he intends to?”

Editorial

Emperor Qin is deciding whether to burn  the scholar’s books or not. The fact that Emperor Qin doesn’t accept other beliefs makes him a weak ruler. Emperor Qin feels that different beliefs, religions, and teachings don’t reflect on the ruler he feels he is. Qin wants everyone in China to study the same teachings, believe in the same things, and practice the same religion. Since Qin doesn’t control this he feels that he isn’t in full control like he wants to and intends to be. Emperor Qin recently spoke out and said that he is not fond of scholars. He feels that they are causing problems in China and only making his ruling go down hill.

Emperor Qin wants everyone to be under his and only his control. He wants his dynasty to not follow other rulers, religions, teachings, and beliefs. Emperor Qin feels that since people under his control are heading towards the directions of other thoughts and beliefs, he is not in full control of them. Emperor Qin wants to be the one who makes the laws, the commands, and punishments. Since there are many different beliefs and religions in China Emperor Qin feels like a weak ruler because he doesn’t not control it.

Qin on the other hand might come to like other teachings. Looking from his perspective if he minded it that much he would have done something about it by now. That doesn’t mean hes not going to but it might be the beginning of something new. Emperor Qin is also a strong leader because he carries a huge army and knows that everyone looks up to him. He is in control and has put China up to a higher standard.

Over time Emperor Qin has made it clear that he does not like other teachings, beliefs, and religion because hes not in power of them and he wants to be in full control always. Qin likes the thought of everyone only looking up to and listening to him. The fact that Emperor Qin doesn’t accept beliefs makes him a weak ruler.

Invention of Qin Dynasty

Gunpowder was invented in China during the Qin Dynasty. Gunpowder is made of sulfur,  charcoal and potassium nitrate and was the first chemical explosive. People mostly use gunpowder when lighting fireworks, and for high explosives. Gunpowder was created in about 850 A.D in China. Emperor Qin used gunpowder in guns, fireworks, and bombs. Gunpowder was very useful in the wars and in any sort of battle.

Gunpowder started to become a sensation from China. First it spread all around the large area and then other countries wanted it too. China slowly started to trade more and more gunpowder when it came to the point of everyone using it. It was first used in other parts of the world to India, Europe, and many other places that needed the product.

Gunpowder has changed peoples lives because it has open a new door to new visionaries. Gunpowder made a new way of weapons to be exposed. Weapons would be stronger and more powerful then they already were. Gunpowder helped wars , both sides had an advance in becoming the stronger or weaker side. Gunpowder has changed peoples lives in those ways.

Interview with Meng Jiang Nyu

Meeting up with Meng-Jiang Nyu opened up many people’s eyes. She turned the table on
everyone’s perspective. She wanted everyone to  know about her thoughts and feelings on
Emperor Qin. She felt that she needed to be heard.

Q: What is your biggest accomplishment?
A: My biggest accomplishment would be to get married. In China it is hard to get married to an ideal man. He must be loyal, have some money, and have a good background. I myself was lucky enough to get that. I got married at 18 to Wan Chi-Lang.
Q: How did you grow up?
A: I grew up in a semi-wealthy family. My parents raised me well. The daily life i had was to get stuff at the market for my mother and to live a life as a kid. I hung out with friends and spent time with relatives. Under the rule o Qin was different though because my father lost his job and my uncle was punished for going against the Emperor.
Q: How do you feel about Emperor Qin?
A: After what happened with my husband I am not as fond of him as  i used to. Because of his dream to make a Great Wall my husband gave his life. Emperor Qin didn’t think through what he was doing. He caused families to break apart, including mine.
Q: What do you think of the things he has done in the past?
A: In the past i have heard that Emperor Qin is a strong, loyal, powerful ruler of China. People told me he was amazing and is moving China forward. Over time i started to believe that. For the past year i completely have gone against Emperor Qin for making such a horrible event occur.  Emperor Qin in my eyes is a cruel ruler.
Q: What happened during the period of building the Great Wall?
A: In my perspective during the building of the Great Wall many lives were thrown around as if not cared about.  Emperor Qin didn’t give everyone the safety that they should have had. He didn’t care for the lives that were lost. He only cared about protection for his dynasty! I feel that if Emperor Qin really did care for the people that were working to fulfill his dream. He was being selfish.

Map of Qin Dynasty

The Qin Dynasty spreads all across China. To the north is the Great Wall, built to protect from the north and northwest. Xiangyang is the capitol of the Qin Dynasty. The Wei, Yellow, Yangtese, and West Rivers flow through the dynasty landpsace. The Zhou Dynasty that was before the Qin Dynasty was smaller. Chinese borders have become larger over time thanks to Emperor Qin and his powerful, strong, and motivated army. Emperor Qin conquered land in order to make his ruling larger and powerful. Qin Shi Huang Di wanted his dynasty to be remembered. Modern China was influenced by the Qin Dynasty. Modern China looked back at to what do and what not to do again in the future relating to the past.
